JC Presentation: Only the Essentials

^Me when I first chose my paper.

^(Hopefully not) The instructors after I present
I had chosen a paper that I knew would be a challenge for me due to my limited understanding of and familiarity with rigorous computational modeling. I figured it would help me prep for understanding heavily computational papers for analyzing my RNA-seq data though. That being said, reading the paper and figuring out the key components given my audience was a real struggle. However, it was that much more rewarding when I finally began to make sense of the overall story, and I personally found the authors' work super cool and potentially useful! While even now I don't think I fully comprehend the complexity of the paper, the instructors truly mean it when they say that we are the experts on our papers. I felt like this expertise put some weight on my shoulder to accurately deliver the message of the story; however, more than that it encouraged me to have some confidence in my work and honestly assess what I did and didn't know, which in turn guided how I structured my paper around my knowledge. In retrospect, I think there were several aspects of my story that could have been shortened. I felt that, especially given my audience, a lot of this computational modeling was new territory and should have been taken at a slower pace. Initially, I had actually wanted to focus only on the computational generation of a meaningful score to assess various aspects of cancer but was limited because of my lack of statistical and modeling knowledge T.T
Overall, it was a fun, informative, and rewarding experience!
